Editorial internship - £tbc
Fancy a career in publishing? Voyageur Publishing, a thriving company in the centre of Bristol, is offering a three to 12-month internship that will see the successful candidate hone their writing skills and become proficient in a range of editorial duties.
The internship will involve producing copy for both of our main titles, learning about house style, and gaining experience in areas such as sub-editing, picture research and proof reading. You will also carry out mailing list duties for each of these titles, which will involve telephoning subscribers to check their current details are correct.
No previous publishing experience is necessary, although a proven interest in writing or reporting would be a distinct advantage. Candidates should be computer literate, with knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Word and making use of the Internet to conduct research being specific advantages. It would also be useful to have experience of using both Mac and PC operating systems.
Successful candidates will be highly motivated and pro-active in their approach to work – we are a small and busy team, and we are looking for a team member who has good communication skills and the ability to work unaided once initial direction has been given. You should be able to pick up new subjects quickly and have a ‘can do’ attitude.
We will invite potential candidates to the Voyageur offices to carry out a couple of short writing tasks to assess their current abilities, including their ability to structure sentences correctly and their grasp of popular grammar.
The internship is full-time, although we would consider candidates who are only able to work four days per week.
